Privacy Policy
Updated: October 4, 2026
In short
Scripts are often confidential, so Slate is built to keep them on your iPhone. There is no account, no advertising, no tracking and no third-party analytics. Data leaves your device only when you choose a feature that needs the network: Pro cloud voices or YouTube upload.
1. Data that stays on your device
Imported scripts and sides, the parsed scenes and lines, your recordings and takes, reader audio, and the slate details you enter for each actor profile (name, height, agency, age or playing age, photo, slate text) are stored only inside the app on your iPhone. We have no copy and no access to them.
Script parsing, text recognition in scans, speech recognition of your lines and system voices all run on the device.
Your iPhone may include app data in its own iCloud or computer backups, according to your iOS settings. Those backups are governed by Apple.
2. Permissions
Camera — to record self-tapes and scan paper sides. Microphone — to record your voice and to notice when you finish a line. Speech recognition — on-device only, to know when the reader should answer. Photos — to import screenshots of sides and to save finished tapes. Face ID — optional lock for the app.
Each permission is requested when you first use the feature and can be changed at any time in iOS Settings.
3. Pro cloud voices
If you subscribe to Pro and turn on a cloud voice, Slate asks for your consent first. After that, the text of your scene partner’s lines and the chosen voice settings are sent over an encrypted connection to our server (api.slate.igorhnes.com), which passes them to ElevenLabs, our speech-synthesis provider, and returns the audio. The audio is cached on your device.
Our server does not store the text or the audio and never writes script text to logs. Its log contains only the request type, status, duration and size. To check your Pro subscription and to prevent abuse, the app also sends a random device identifier created by the app and Apple’s signed record of your subscription. ElevenLabs processes the text under its own privacy policy.
Your own lines are never sent. You can switch back to on-device voices at any time.
4. YouTube upload
If you choose to upload a tape to YouTube, you sign in with Google in a secure Apple sign-in window. The access token is stored in your device Keychain, and the video goes straight from your iPhone to YouTube. We do not receive the video or your Google credentials. Google’s Privacy Policy (policies.google.com/privacy) and YouTube’s Terms of Service apply. You can disconnect your account in the app, which revokes the token.
5. Purchases
Subscriptions are processed by Apple through the App Store. We never see your payment details. Apple shares with the app only a signed record that confirms which plan is active.
6. Sharing your tapes
Tapes leave the app only when you export them: to Photos, Files, the share sheet, or YouTube. Where they go from there is up to you and the services you choose.
7. Children
Slate is not directed at children under 13. Parents and managers can keep profiles for child actors; that information stays on the parent’s device as described above.
8. Keeping and deleting data
You can delete auditions, takes and caches in the app (Profile → Storage). Deleting the app removes all of its data from the device. Because our server keeps nothing, there is no server-side data to delete.
9. Your rights
Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR or CCPA) you have the right to ask what data we hold about you and to have it deleted. Since we do not hold personal data on our servers, such a request usually ends with that answer, but we will always reply.
10. Changes
If this policy changes, we will update the date at the top of this page. Significant changes will also be announced in the app.
