Terms of Use

By downloading or using Slate you agree to these Terms and to Apple’s Standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement (apple.com/legal/internet-services/itunes/dev/stdeula). If you do not agree, do not use the app.

Slate is an iPhone app for actors. It imports scripts, splits them into scenes, characters and lines, reads a scene partner’s lines aloud, helps you rehearse, and records and exports self-tapes.

The free plan includes two active auditions, one actor profile, system voices, recording and export, with a small “Slate” mark on the cover. Pro removes these limits and the mark and adds cloud neural voices. Pro is offered monthly ($9.99) or yearly ($59.99, with a 7-day free trial). The app shows the exact price in your currency before you buy.

Payment is charged to your Apple ID at confirmation of purchase. The subscription renews automatically for the same period unless you turn off auto-renew at least 24 hours before the current period ends. Your account is charged for renewal within 24 hours before the end of the period.

If you cancel during the free trial, you are not charged. Any unused part of a free trial is forfeited when you buy a subscription.

You can manage or cancel your subscription in your App Store account settings. Deleting the app does not cancel it. Refunds are handled by Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com.

Scripts, recordings and tapes you create belong to you or to their rights holders. We claim no rights to them and cannot access them: they are stored on your device, as described in the Privacy Policy.

Only import material you are allowed to use. Scripts and sides are often covered by NDAs or copyright; you are responsible for complying with them and with the rules of the casting platforms you submit to.

Pro cloud voices are generated by a third-party speech provider via our server. They are provided for rehearsal and self-tape readers. Do not use them to imitate a real person or to create misleading content. Cloud features depend on network availability and the provider, and may change or be temporarily unavailable.

Do not use Slate for unlawful purposes, to infringe others’ rights, or to attempt to bypass subscription checks, rate limits or other protections of the service.

The Slate app, its design, name, icon and code belong to us. These Terms grant you a personal, non-transferable licence to use the app on Apple devices you own or control.

The app is provided “as is”. Automatic script parsing and speech recognition may contain mistakes. Check your scene and your tape before submitting it to casting.

To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect or incidental damages, including lost auditions or roles, arising from use of the app. Nothing in these Terms limits rights you have under consumer protection law.

We may update these Terms. The date at the top shows the latest version. Continuing to use the app after a change means you accept it.
